Sophrology and sophro-coaching in Islington, North London

What is Sophrology?

Developed in 1960 in Spain by Prof. Alfonso Caycedo, a neuro-psychiatrist, it is now a very popular science and method in continental Europe and has only recently been introduced to the UK. The aim of the method is to develop a state of well-being in daily life both in body and mind. The term Sophrology comes from the Greek words 'sos' meaning harmony, 'phren' meaning consciousness and 'logos' meaning 'study/science'. Its philosophy considers each human being as unique, free and able to consciously transform his attitudes toward himself and the world around him. The uniqueness of the method is that although its aims can appear difficult to reach, it becomes much more evident once you start practicing its techniques and quickly experience the changes. Practice is based on relaxation and breathing techniques, concentration, visualisation, simple movements as well as simple use of voice. The exercises used are simple and accessible to everybody. In a one-to-one session, you learn the techniques that are best suited to you and you are then able to reproduce them on your own in your daily environment. In a group session, you will learn tools depending on the theme of the workshop, or can take a more regular class to learn all the techniques of Sophrology.
